One of six finalists in an international competition for a library and cultural centre.
Moran Park occupies a prominent site between Haigh Terrace and the seafront at Dún Laoghaire, set on granite bedrock around an existing central pond. The proposal comprises three buildings: a five-storey library, a cultural centre and accommodation for the council’s community department. The buildings are connected at basement and ground levels and constructed around a recycled steel frame, with elevations of banded translucent glazing and precast concrete panels.
The central pond was reconstructed above the basement car park, with stone paths crossing the surrounding lawn and a series of cascading steps leading down towards the harbour. The landscape strategy connects the buildings to the seafront while retaining the park’s role as a civic and communal space.
