Grade II-listed King's Cross landmark rebuilt behind a retained facade, sitting directly above London Underground tunnels.
The Lighthouse is a Grade II-listed landmark overlooking King’s Cross Station. Its change of use required the building behind the retained historic façade to be entirely reconstructed, creating new office and retail accommodation while preserving the character of the original landmark. A new office floor sits beneath a stepped vaulted roof clad in diamond-patterned zinc tiles, while the original weather vane and external cladding have been carefully conserved.
The building is positioned directly above two Underground tunnels, presenting significant structural and construction challenges. The scheme therefore required a carefully developed structural strategy and complex sequencing of the works to enable construction while protecting the infrastructure below.
