Ightham Scout Pavilion

The change of use and reconstruction behind the existing façade of a Grade II landmark building in London's Kings Cross providing office and retail use, with a new floor of offices under a stepping vaulted zinc roof. The building is built directly on two underground train tunnels, creating significant design and construction challenges.

The Lighthouse . London WC1X

A mixed use development of 16 lateral apartments and 4 duplex retail units in the heart of Mayfair. The existing Grade II listed buildings were converted from commercial to residential use with sensitive yet contemporary interventions within the existing fabric. The scheme also involves enhancements to the public realm, and was granted planning and listed buildings consent in May 2009.
Client: Grosvenor.

A mixed use development including 12 private residential units ranging from studios to 3 bedroom apartments, and 4 affordable 3 bedroom apartments. The apartments sit within a brick frame with metal and glass panel elements whose irregularity, together with the recessed balconies, provide a variety of depth to the elevation.

90-104 Berwick Street . London W1

This new office and retail building completes the urban block shared with The Lighthouse – currently on site – in front of King's Cross station.
Sharing the design challenges of being over two Underground tunnels the scheme is a light weight structure that respects the height and rhythm of the listed Lighthouse building.

35 Cosway Street . London NW1

The significant refurbishment of this 1870s mews house in the Hans Town conservation area includes a mansard and reconfiguration of the layout. At practical completion it should be one of the oldest homes in the UK to comply with EnerPHit standard and to be certified as BREEAM Outstanding whilst preserving its original fabric.

126 Pavilion Road . London SW1X

The design and construction of a new private house set within the green belt. The house sits within a mature garden, surrounded by trees to the North, with open views to the South. The materials reflect the rural nature of the site. Cedar shingles and screens form the roof and end walls, whilst the entrance drive is lined by a curved slate wall.

Titness Park . Ascot SL5

The design of a new family house set in the Kent countryside, maximising spectacular views from the site. The materials of stone, timber and rammed earth reflect the rural context and draw references from the vernacular agricultural buildings in the area. Double height entrance hall and living areas create a real sense of space and fill the property with light. The building will incorporate the latest in sustainable servicing.

Hill View Farm . Kent TN15

An extensive refurbishment and extension of a 1950s office building in the City of London. The existing wing and new structure are clad with full height curtain walling. Client: Earthquake Property Partners.

Meridian Quay . Swansea SA1

Latitude were selected as one of 6 finalists in the international design competition for a new Central Library and Cultural Centre in the historic coastal town of Dun Laoghaire in Ireland. Three monoliths, housing the distinct functions, rise from a ground floor that links all buildings and forms routes through the site.

Dun Laoghaire . Ireland

A design competition to create a building which will form a major new public attraction in the centre of Skibbereen. A building that is clearly routed in the historical fabric of the town, but is also contemporary, relating to the artists and crafts people working now and in the future. The building enables the many activities required and facilitates the complete interaction of people and art in the town.

West Cork Arts Centre . Ireland

A design competition to enable Sevenoaks Nature Centre, a converted gravel pit, to become a vehicle for supporting people to connect with nature, wildlife and environmental issues and in so doing improve their own sense of wellbeing and vitality.
A low impact architecture and infrastructure touching the ground lightly was considered an appropriate response to context. Keeping the built mass to a single storey minimizing visual impact and allowing access for all. Integrating the Darenth Valley walking route through the site provides the opportunity for the visitor centre to become a fixture on the trail and a place for pause and enjoyment of the views and wildlife. At key points around the reserve further interventions allow activities for visitors to enjoy and be educated by the surroundings, or simply to sit quietly.
